WWA downs heroic Madness. US 12th. See you in MoP.

We are going to edit in a sweet line-up screenshot later after either voore or i get photoshop, but for now, here is an action shot:

As with every finally kill of a tier, or more specifically final kill of an expansion, i agreed that i would write a "novel," as my guild likes to call it, on the forums with my thoughts about the tier, the expansion and the guild.

This expansion has been something truly special for <WWA>. Cataclysm bore witness to our transformation from some mediocre US 60th guild to slightly more respectable US 12th. We changed a lot over this expansion, as a guild and as players. Very little of the roster has actually remained the same, and fewer still have been here since the guild's beginning (just Killmour, raw and i).

There have been varying opinions of this tier as a whole, but i would say overall i found this tier to be largely enjoyable, the obvious exception being spine. Many of the fights were surprisingly well designed with interesting mechanics, but were simply not correctly tuned. Overall this tier simply seemed too easy. I know this seems vaguely hypocritical of me, being that we still did lose to 11 other 25man guilds, but for our sake, and all of theirs, we could have used more of a challenge.

With regards to the madness fight itself, i honestly found this to be one of the most enjoyable fights in a long time. The only qualm i really have is that it was too easy. I know a lot of people have complained that there really are only two new mechanics in heroic madness, but the way the mechanics interact make it seem like a whole different fight. A perfect example is our first madness kill, where we killed kalecgos BEFORE nozdormu, because the spellweaving buff simply didn't matter. Even attempting heroic without spellweaving would be hilarious. Madness was a great fight to end the expansion on. Too bad it was overshadowed by shit ass garbage like spine.

More excitement in my extended post, (don't want to fuck up the front page too badly).
^click that link, idiot.

Spine down, more on that later.

This was, without a doubt, the single WORST encounter i have ever experienced both as a raider and raid leader. There is NOTHING in this fight that tests ability in the slightest. The mechanics are neither interesting, nor exciting, and the encounter feels like a 12 to 13 minute trash pull. The amount of raidstacking this fight calls for is obscene and a guild like us who really doesn't raidstack really suffers.
The dispellable debuff mechanic is a perfect example of the problem with the fight. The debuff does not add anything to the fight. It's just something else for a healer to do, that really does not add any layer of depth of difficulty to it. Coupled with the fact that the random nature of bounces sometimes makes it so tanks don't get the 20% reduction until the third plate, the debuff ultimately becomes more of a nuisance than anything else.
Interestingly enough, our kill is probably one of the least raidstacked kills to date, as we don't really raid stack. We've done this whole tier with the 4 mages that we killed spine with. There were no alt mages, rogues or anything for that matter on our final kill. Interestingly enough, by the time we actually kill it, our damage was so good that it wasn't uncommon to see a tendon at 37-39% without lust or pots.
Thank god that shitfest is done.

edit: i editted in an action shot of us on our first few spine pulls:
